Erik ten Hag slams Manchester United players for not being ‘angry’ enough in drab Newcastle defeat.
Erik ten Hag was dissatisfied with his Manchester United players for not being angry enough in their defeat at Newcastle United on Sunday.
Due to second-half goals from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson, the Red Devils lost to the Magpies 2-0. The Netherlands manager was not pleased with his team’s body language since he believed that the opponents’ aggression on the field contributed to their victory.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5Live, Ten Hag said: “I said after the game in the dressing room, ‘It can’t be that the opponent is angrier than we are’. The race for the top four is going to be a fight, and you can only win when you match the desire and passion of the opponent. Setbacks always you have to deal with, we have to leave this behind and only take the lessons from the determination, about the passion and desire.”
Man United dropped to fourth after the defeat and is currently level for third place with Newcastle on 50 points. Spurs, who are competing for a spot among the top teams and are only one point behind the two clubs in front of them, are closely behind them.
Next up for Ten Hag’s team is a home Premier League match against Brentford on April 5.
