Enzo Fernandez reveals Chelsea’s lofty ambitions for the new Premier League season under new boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Enzo Fernandez believes that Chelsea is now the frontrunner to clinch the Premier League title for the upcoming season, following the appointment of a new manager at the club.
The Argentine international, who became one of the most expensive players in British football on the final day of the January transfer window, joined the Blues.
Fernandez faced a challenging debut season, making 22 appearances, during which Chelsea finished outside the Premier League’s top 10. However, he’s optimistic about a stronger performance this time, especially with Mauricio Pochettino taking the helm as the manager and setting their sights on winning the league.
In an interview with Chelseafc.com, Fernandez expressed, “Our primary goal this year is to secure the Premier League title. With our new head coach, the expectations have shifted. When I first arrived, everything was quite challenging, with numerous changes happening rapidly. We aim to be a proactive team, both in attack and defense, approaching every game with a winning mindset, regardless of the opponent. Our objective is to assert dominance in every match.”
Fernandez also highlighted the advantage of having a manager from his own country, stating, “Having an Argentine coach makes things much easier for me. Communicating with him in Spanish is crucial, as my English is still a work in progress. It boosts my confidence and strengthens our rapport. Pochettino’s presence is highly significant for me and my teammates.”
While Chelsea has bolstered its squad with several high-caliber signings, recent addition Christopher Nkunku will be sidelined due to knee surgery. Their attempts to acquire Moises Caicedo from Brighton to further reinforce their midfield have been unsuccessful this summer.
Pochettino’s team will kick off their Premier League 2023–24 campaign on Sunday against Liverpool.
