England squad: Raheem Sterling & Mason Mount dropped as Eberechi Eze is drafted in for the latest Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Gareth Southgate has selected the England squad for the UEFA EURO 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Malta in June.
The Three Lions manager has selected a 25-player group for the games, which start with the trip to Malta for the first match on Friday 16 June.
Raheem Sterling, a forward for Chelsea, was left off Gareth Southgate’s roster for England’s forthcoming European qualifying matches.
When the Three Lions play Malta and North Macedonia the following month, they will try to keep up their flawless start to qualifying from Group C.
Sterling, meanwhile, is left out following a turbulent and underwhelming season with Chelsea, despite being one of Southgate’s go-to players in qualification and at important tournaments for England.
The winger has had many injury setbacks while presiding over three management eras in west London, all the while watching his previous team Manchester City enjoy their third consecutive league triumph.
Southgate watched Chelsea’s Sunday loss to City at the Etihad as he finalized his lineup, which led to yet another letdown for Sterling and co.
While the Blues winger is not included, Lewis Dunk of Brighton, who was a crucial component of Robert De Zerbi’s European-winning Brighton, receives a well-deserved call-up. Dunk might get only his second-ever England cap and his first since 2018.
Eberechi Eze, a top player for Crystal Palace, is also chosen by Southgate due to his outstanding play, which has seen him score six goals and provide one assist since Roy Hodgson took over in late March.
Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope is not included due to an operation on his hand, a procedure which The Times reports has been moved forward after the Magpies secured Champions League qualification on Monday. City’s starting players will likely not feature against Malta on June 16, given that they will have played the Champions League final against Inter just six days before.
