Wizkid was leaning towards Reggae and Dancehall when Banky W signed him – Rapper Eldee (Video)
US-based Nigerian veteran rapper Lanre Dabiri, better known as Eldee the Don, has shed light on the early career path of Grammy Award-winning artist Wizkid. Eldee revealed that before becoming a global Afrobeats icon, Wizkid initially pursued reggae and dancehall music.
The “Today-Today” hitmaker, who relocated abroad a few years ago, made this revelation during an appearance on music executive Adesope Shopsydoo’s Afrobeat podcast. Eldee recounted how he recognized Wizkid’s talent and played a role in shaping the budding artist’s future.
According to Eldee, he once had a conversation with Banky W about Wizkid’s potential and advised him to guide the young artist carefully. Banky W, who recently marked his wedding anniversary, was pivotal in grooming Wizkid into the superstar he is today.
During the podcast, Eldee emphasized the importance of Wizkid staying true to his roots. He shared how he encouraged the “Essence” singer to focus on creating music that resonates with Nigerian culture and originality.
