Fans reacts to Drake’s loss
Canadian rapper Drake faced a significant setback, losing a substantial six-figure sum after betting on Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight clash against Francis Ngannou on Saturday evening.
The rap icon had hoped for a massive payday of over £1 million after placing a wager on the bout in Saudi Arabia, which ended with Joshua emerging victorious in just two rounds.
Joshua’s powerful knockout blow sent Ngannou crashing to the canvas, requiring medical attention in the ring before managing to rise to his feet.
Drake’s streak of losses in combat sports persisted as he backed Ngannou to defeat Joshua, missing out on what could have been an incredible payout.
The phenomenal British boxer Anthony Joshua is getting closer to realizing his dream of winning the heavyweight title three times, thanks to his most recent thrilling triumph in Saudi Arabia.
It was expected that the fight between the two most potent punchers in boxing would go either way, but Joshua surprised everyone by winning.
In what would have been a stunning victory over the more seasoned Joshua in just his second professional fight, Drake put £478,000 on Ngannou.
If Ngannou had done so, then Drake would have cashed out a grand total of £1.48 million after backing the underdog.
Previously posting his wager to his 146 million Instagram followers, the music icon simply stated: ‘Betting on a scary man.’
This outcome adds to Drake’s series of losses in high-stakes sports betting, leading fans to suggest that his infamous ‘curse’ had struck again.
Earlier in January, the 37-year-old incurred losses of over half a million pounds when he backed Sean Strickland to defend his UFC middleweight championship against Dricus Du Plessis.
He also suffered a loss of £430,000 when Israel Adesanya was defeated by Strickland in the octagon, in addition to a £700,000 bet on Logan Paul to defeat Dillon Danis in a boxing match.
Fans took to social media to humorously remark on Drake’s apparent ‘curse,’ jokingly suggesting that his support for Ngannou over Joshua in Saturday evening’s bout was a sure sign of impending defeat.
One comment on X quipped, “He always picks the wrong winner,” highlighting Drake’s streak of backing losing athletes.
Another post humorously declared, “Drake is the Godfather of Jinx. You’re losing if he bets in your favor,” playing on the idea that Drake’s bets often result in misfortune for the athletes he supports.
