Hi, Dotman! How are you doing today?
Dotman: I am fine and you?
Great! We’re honoured to have you here, How do you balance making music and the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic?
Dotman: The pleasure is all mine fam, thanks for having me, thank you guys for your love and support all the time. For me, It’s not just working, it’s a hobby and when you love what you do, it won’t be work anymore, even in uncertain times, you would do it and it would keep you going.
We all danced and still groove to your hit single ‘Enu gbe’ off the ‘Hakuna Matata’ album! How did you feel about the reception of your hit single ‘Enu gbe’ and the whole of the ‘Hakuna Matata’ album across the continent?
Dotman: Super excited about the acceptance of songs of my debut album, The love has been massive, With over 40 million streams cumulatively on all platforms, I mean songs like Pele, HAKUNA MATATA, Chop Life, Feelings, Tonight all getting bigger daily! It’s much love from here…I feel blessed, ENU GBE did the job it was sent to do, The song was recorded in 2018, Just kept it in one of those folders, I remember I was in CYPRUS when I sent my manager that song knowing it was going to be BIG, he said the same, now the rest is history. Glad we put it out.
We’ve seen how you blended with Olamide on ‘Yes Melo’ Remix Which other Nigerian musician would you like to collaborate with?
Dotman: I am very deliberate about collaboration with anyone, I like to be in sync with whoever I work with. I listen to a song and if it sounds like a song that fits a particular artiste I go for it and work with them. That’s it, I don’t collaborate just with anyone…But I am open to working with every and anyone. I will like to work with everyone I can tho.
Just recently, you launched your record label, what has it been like so far? What are the challenges and what do you hope to achieve?
Dotman: I launched 808 Recordz in 2018, I just decided to go back to my own it, Everything has been smooth and easy, one step at a time, no rush, no drama. There has been no major issue apart from the one that comes with being a CEO like you are the driver of the car and you are the car.
You welcomed a baby boy this year, how does it feel to be a father and how has it changed your perspective?
Dotman: That’s the best thing that has happened to me. I mean being a father just shapes you and reminds you to grind harder, you ain’t just doing it for you, you now begin to do it for him. It’s a feeling you can’t express.
Who are the artists that inspire or influence you?
Dotman: I draw my inspirations from everyone making good music! I listen to music to relax so tapping inspiration from everywhere.

Dotman: Was in Unilag, I used to sell AKUBE clothes in school, many won’t want to buy and I would have to freestyle for them before they buy that was where the inspiration came from.
