Donyell Malen transfer: Aston Villa complete signing of Dutch forward from Borussia Dortmund
Aston Villa has completed the signing of Dutch forward Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth up to £27.7 million, including performance-related add-ons. The initial fee is reported to be £21 million, though Villa has not disclosed the length of the contract.

The club announced the signing with a statement on their official website: “Aston Villa is delighted to announce the signing of Dutch international Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund. The 25-year-old forward, who has over 100 career club goals, joins from the German giants for an undisclosed fee.
Malen helped Dortmund reach the Champions League final last season and netted 13 Bundesliga goals. With nine goals in 41 international appearances, Malen is a key player for the Netherlands and represented his country at UEFA Euro 2024. Welcome, Donyell!”

Malen scored five goals in 20 games for Dortmund this season, including a goal in their recent 3-1 Bundesliga win over Wolfsburg.
Over his three-and-a-half years at Dortmund, he netted 39 times in 131 appearances after joining from PSV Eindhoven in July 2021 for a reported £26 million as a replacement for Jadon Sancho. Before his time at PSV, Malen spent two years in Arsenal’s academy but was sold to the Dutch club in 2017.
The Dutchman has a notable international career, with nine goals in 41 appearances for the Netherlands, and was part of the squad for UEFA Euro 2024. Known for his pace and versatility, Malen brings a proven goal-scoring pedigree to Aston Villa’s attacking options.
