Nigerian music icon Don Jazzy has finally weighed in on an old story that recently crawled back into the spotlight, a tale shared by industry figure Bankulli about a car incident said to have happened almost twenty years ago in London.

Bankulli had claimed that the Mavin boss was involved in an accident inside London’s Blackwall Tunnel, removed the car’s number plate, and left the vehicle behind to escape hefty towing charges.

As the comments made their way around social media, fans began to speculate, with some even asking whether the decades-old incident could still cause legal trouble for Don Jazzy if he ever decided to revisit the UK.

“Just to survive, Don Jazzy had an acc!!dent back in London, he took out the plate number and ran away. Why? Because it will cost him more to tow the car out of there than to repair it.”

Don Jazzy, however, wasn’t bothered by the noise. Reacting to the online buzz, he calmly set the record straight, saying the event happened so long ago that the finer details have blurred, but one thing he remembers clearly is that he didn’t run away.

He explained that he waited at the scene for the police, who arrived, conducted their routine checks, and even carried out a breathalyzer test that confirmed he wasn’t under the influence.

Lol no panic. its been so long so he doesnt remember the story exactly. I actually waited for the police. They came and gave me a breathalyser to determine if i was drunk. I wasnt but the car was impounded. The fine to collect the car back was more than the cheap car so i left it… https://t.co/S3YN4BQQsR

The officers later impounded the car. But when it was time to collect it, the bill turned out to be higher than the value of the vehicle itself, so he simply let it go.

UK legal professionals have also weighed in, noting that incidents like this fall under minor traffic offenses, which must be prosecuted within six months.

Since the police were involved back then, and considering this all happened nearly two decades ago, the matter is legally settled and cannot be reopened.
