“I Was Full on the Outside, Empty Within” – DJ Cuppy shares her spiritual awakening and journey to self-awareness

Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola, widely known as DJ Cuppy, has once again peeled back the layers of her life, revealing a deeply personal chapter centered on faith, identity, and the quiet awakening of the soul.
The Nigerian DJ and media personality, once known for her vibrant pink aesthetics, luxury lifestyle, and global DJ sets, is now taking a different kind of stage — one defined not by flashing lights but by spiritual introspection.
In her latest reflection, Cuppy speaks openly about her renewed walk with God and what she calls the “death of self” — a key Christian principle rooted in surrendering ego, pride, and worldly ambition for a more spiritually grounded life.
“To be a follower of Christ means death of self,” she shared. “So, if I think about what I’m most grateful for, it’s actually self-awareness.”
Cuppy confessed that despite achieving remarkable levels of success by the world’s standards, she felt an unsettling emptiness within.
“I actually cannot believe how successful I was by worldly terms, but how empty I felt inside,” she admitted — a striking contrast to the glamorous image she once portrayed.
But rather than gloss over that emptiness, she embraced it — and what followed was clarity. “The worst thing isn’t being in a dark place,” she said. “The worst thing is not even realising that you’re in one. I’m just thankful that I finally saw it for what it was — and realised what I truly needed to heal.”
Now on a new path, Cuppy has anchored herself in her Christian faith, grounding her journey with scriptures like Proverbs 3:5 — “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” — and Romans 12:2, which encourages believers to “not conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Her story is a reminder that success is not always what it seems — and that true fulfillment often begins when we let go of everything we thought defined us.
