Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has expressed his admiration for the team’s newest signing, Ryan Gravenberch.
The 21-year-old became the club’s fourth midfield addition of the summer transfer season when he joined the Reds from Bayern Munich on the final day of the window.
In order to concentrate on adjusting to his new surroundings in Merseyside, Gravenberch chose not to travel with the Netherlands’ Under-21 team for their September international matches. His choice was not well received in his native country.
But because he remained in England and avoided being hurt, Gravenberch is expected to make his Liverpool debut on Saturday against Wolves.
Jota acknowledged like the appearance of Gravenberch, who graduated from the Ajax academy before joining Bayern in 2022, on the club’s official website.
“I think great,” Jota replied when asked how the midfielder has been settling in. “Obviously he has two very close friends, the Dutch players [Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo], and they are three now, so they can help each other.
“Obviously I’ve not been in and just had a couple of sessions with him, but you can see already the quality he brings [and] has on his feet. “I think he will be one more to help us going forward.”
This weekend marks Liverpool’s return to Premier League play after a successful start to the 2023–24 season that saw them earn 10 out of a possible 12 points and record two victories despite playing with 10 men.
Discussing their season so far, Jota added: “It was not perfect, obviously we didn’t win all the games, but I think we must be happy because we changed a lot, we changed our approaches and we still got 10 out of 12 [points], and we had games with difficult circumstances with the red card.
“So I think it’s a positive start and hopefully we can go from here.“
