Diogo Dalot ends transfer speculation by penning new long-term contract at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have announced that defender Diogo Dalot has signed a new contract with the club until June 2028 with the option for a further year.
The Portuguese international Dalot, who is mostly a right full-back but can also play on the left side, has had a successful season under new United coach Erik ten Hag, and the Dutchman has been eager to complete a move for the player.
Dalot has officially signed on the dotted line to extend his contract into next summer after United and the player and his representation reached an agreement on conditions. United has used a one-year extension mechanism in the contract to extend the original arrangement, which was originally set to expire in 2023, giving them more time to secure a long-term contract.
Dalot has been a key player for United this season, making 42 games across all leagues to help them win the Carabao Cup, finish third in the Premier League, and advance to the next FA Cup final. The 24-year-old has been linked to a transfer away this summer despite his significance, with Real Madrid and Barcelona reportedly showing interest.
“Playing for Manchester United is one of the highest honours that you can have in football,” Dalot told the club’s website. “We have shared some fantastic moments over the past five years, and I’ve grown so much and my passion for this incredible club has only increased since the day that I joined. As a group of players, we all feel like we are at the start of a special journey right now. I can assure you that I will dedicate myself relentlessly to helping this group to achieve our aims and make the fans proud of this team.”

Now that an agreement has been reached, United’s summer preparations are off to a good start. Marcus Rashford and David de Gea are anticipated to follow Dalot in the near future and extend their own contracts.
On Saturday, Dalot and his castmates will compete against Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
