Diddy To Receive MTV’s Global Icon Award At 2023 VMAs.
On September 5, 2023, MTV announced that Sean “Diddy” Combs will receive the prestigious Global Icon Award during this year’s Video Music Awards.
This event, scheduled to air live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on September 12 at 8 p.m. ET, holds special significance for the music mogul as it marks his first live performance on the VMAs stage since 2005.
The Global Icon Award, introduced in 2021, represents MTV’s highest honour for artists whose influence transcends international boundaries. The “Gotta Move On” chart-topper is set to join the esteemed ranks of previous recipients, including Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
In the earlier stages of his career, the musician gained recognition as the visionary behind the creation of Bad Boy Records in 1993.
As we fast-forward to today, he has not only nurtured legendary talents like the late Notorious B.I.G. but has also flourished as an artist in his own right. Diddy’s musical journey includes two albums that reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart and five singles that topped the Hot 100 chart.

Adding to the anticipation, Diddy’s upcoming album, “The Love Album: Off the Grid,” is scheduled for release just a few days after his appearance at the VMAs.
This album will feature collaborations with artists such as Jazmine Sullivan, Summer Walker, Ty Dolla $ign, Coco Jones, Mary J. Blige, and many others. It was recently reported that The Weeknd will make his final guest appearance on this LP, creating even more buzz around the project.
This year, the New York native has also received four nominations for the VMAs. His songs, “Creepin’ (Remix)” featuring Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, and 21 Savage, and “Gotta Move On (Queens Remix)” featuring Bryson Tiller, Ashanti, and Yung Miami, are both in the running for the Best Collaboration category.
Furthermore, the former track is a contender for Best R&B, while the latter is competing in the Best Hip Hop category.
Back in 1997, Diddy made his first appearance on the MTV stage when he delivered a heartfelt tribute to Biggie, just months after the tragic loss of the legendary rapper.
Additionally, he has previously hosted both the Video Music Awards and the Europe Music Awards in the early 2000s. This time, his return to the VMAs coincides with rumors of a potential 50th-anniversary celebration dedicated to the hip-hop genre.
