Dean Henderson to undergo medical ahead of permanent Man Utd exit.
Reports indicate that Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is set to undergo a medical at Crystal Palace ahead of a £20 million move. Henderson, who spent the previous season on loan at Nottingham Forest, has struggled to secure the starting goalkeeper position at Manchester United, with David de Gea as the preferred choice.
During his loan spell at Nottingham Forest, Henderson made 18 Premier League appearances but eventually lost his starting spot to Keylor Navas, who joined the team in January. Nottingham Forest opted to sign Matt Turner as their new starting goalkeeper, bypassing the opportunity to bring in Henderson or Navas on a permanent basis.
Henderson’s situation at Manchester United changed when the club parted ways with David de Gea during the summer transfer window and brought in Andre Onana from Inter Milan. With Onana as the new first-choice goalkeeper, Henderson was reportedly in discussions with Manchester United last week regarding a move to Crystal Palace.
The move to Crystal Palace would provide Henderson with the opportunity to secure regular first-team football. Reports suggest that Palace has assured Henderson that he will eventually replace Vicente Guaita as the team’s starting goalkeeper, although he will face competition from the talented Sam Johnstone.
Dean Henderson signed a long-term contract with Manchester United in 2020 after a successful loan spell at Sheffield United, briefly displacing De Gea as the starting goalkeeper. However, he made only 13 Premier League appearances for Manchester United before David De Gea regained his place as the first-choice goalkeeper under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
