D’banj announces the sequel to his classic album ‘Entertainer’ released 16 years ago
In a recent interview on Hip TV, Nigerian music icon D’banj shared details about his upcoming album, set to be a follow-up to his critically acclaimed and commercially successful 2008 album, “Entertainer.”
According to D’banj, the new album will be released on June 28, 2024, and will continue the legacy of *Entertainer*, which featured hit singles such as “Igwe,” “Fall In Love,” “Gbono Feli Feli,” and “Suddenly.”
D’banj is celebrated as one of Nigeria’s most illustrious artists, significantly contributing to the global presence of Nigerian music, notably through his “Mr. Endowed” remix featuring Snoop Dogg.
Discussing his role as a trailblazer in international collaborations within Afrobeats, D’banj acknowledged that while others had collaborated with international artists before him, his efforts were on a grander scale that altered the narrative for Nigerian artists.
“Before us, featuring an international artist used to be seen like they were doing you a favour…but we were able to deliver the biggest and that was able to give hope and visibility to the kids,” D’banj said, highlighting the impact of his collaboration with Snoop Dogg on international collaborations in Nigerian music.
D’banj also mentioned that collaboration has become the new form of competition in the industry. He expressed his eagerness to work with the new generation of stars, including Ayra Starr, Rema, and Ruger, among others.
Celebrating 20 years in the music industry, D’banj emphasized the significance of his new album as a sequel to his 2008 masterpiece. “Just like every good movie, there’s a sequel…this is Entertainer,” the sequel coming 16 years after,” he told Hip TV.
Ahead of the album release, D’banj has dropped a few new singles, the latest being “Koko,” written by Olamide. Fans eagerly anticipate the full album, expecting it to uphold the legacy of his earlier work while introducing fresh collaborations and sounds.
