D’banj reveals how a case of Mistaken Identity helped get Kanye West involved in “Oliver Twist”
Dapo Oyebanjo popularly known as D’Banj reflected on the event that led to American rap musician and business tycoon Kanye West remixing one of his smash songs, Oliver Twist.
In the seventh episode of Journey of the Beats on Showmax, the entertainer related how a mix-up at the Dubai airport led to a chance encounter with Kanye West.
The Tongolo singer claimed that on a private flight from Dubai to the United States, an air hostess mistook him for Kanye West.
Upon hearing the Grammy award-winning artist was going to be at the airport in a few minutes, the ever-intelligent D’banj jumped at the opportunity, walked up to Kanye, and managed to play him the Oliver Twist record.
D’Banj further said while West appeared impressed with his style and persistence, hearing the infamous line, “I like Beyonce,” got him hooked and an opportunity for a lifetime relationship began.

However, it is pertinent to note that Kanye West’s feature in Fall in Love was not the start of collaborations between Nigerian artists and international acts, however, it gave Afrobeats a push to further get a global presence.
Another international collaboration by D’banj that was a hit was Mr Endowed featuring Snoop Dogg.
Recall that in June 2011, D’banj got signed to Kanye West‘s GOOD Music, and that was supposed to be the beginning of an era.
However, the new deal saw D’banj and his former partner in ‘music’, Don Jazzy fall out which brought an end to the label, Mo’hits records.
