D’banj Reportedly Detained By ICPC Over N-Power Funds Misappropriation
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested D’banj, real name Dapo Oyebanjo.
According to Premium Times, the top music singer was finally surrounded and compelled to surrender himself at their headquarters in Abuja on December 6, 2022.
It was also learned that D’banj had been evading summons to defend fraudulent charges against him for several weeks, claiming to be on tour outside of the country.
The musician is accused of defrauding the government of hundreds of thousands of naira intended for the N-Power initiative, which would have empowered young people.
It was claimed that D’banj conspired with dishonest government representatives to add phantom beneficiaries to the funds’ payroll.

The funds were then traced back to accounts affiliated with the performer. Premium Times claims that when the kokomaster ignored his summons for several months, the ICPC attempted to have him detained domestically or abroad.
As a result, Dbanj eventually turned himself in at the agency’s Abuja headquarters.
The singer was subjected to a protracted grilling before his request for bail was also denied. It was claimed that even if his bail request was approved, he could not be relied upon to appear at his own trial.
The ICPC might approach the court on Wednesday for an extended remand order to enable the agency complete its investigation before charging the musician to court.
