More than a decade after the breakup of the iconic Mo’Hits Records, music superstar D’Banj has finally shed fresh light on what really happened between him and Don Jazzy in those defining early years of their career.

During a recent appearance on the Mic On podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, the singer revisited the 2012 split that shook the Nigerian music scene.
While fans had long speculated about what led to the end of one of the industry’s strongest partnerships, D’Banj insisted that the decision wasn’t his to make.
According to him, the push for separation was entirely from his former partner.
He said, “If I were to go back in time, I wouldn’t have done anything differently regarding my relationship with Don Jazzy, especially when the idea to go our separate ways didn’t come from me. It came from Don Jazzy 100 per cent. And that’s why we have no issue.”
D’Banj further revealed that Don Jazzy had been generous during the transition phase. “Jazzy gave me 100 per cent of my catalogue and maybe 10 other songs I have not released… If was a journey for me, even though he had his opinion, I knew that we needed to cement that global movement and I’m glad that even after, God still did it for us with ‘Oliver Twist’, which was the last record we released together,” he said.
The Mo’Hits breakup was officially announced by Don Jazzy in 2012, with the producer hinting at creative disagreements at the time. Yet today, D’Banj maintains that everything happened the way it was meant to.
Though he expressed no regrets about the split, describing it as something that was destined to occur, the singer admitted that he still misses the musical chemistry he once shared with Don Jazzy.
“The idea to go our separate ways came from Don Jazzy 100%… Jazzy gave me 100% of my catalogue and maybe 10 other songs I have not released.”
