Nigerian music icon D’banj has sparked buzz across social media after revealing his current top three Nigerian artists, and Wizkid was noticeably left out.

In a recent sit-down with Adesope Live, the Koko Master lauded Rema, Davido, and Burna Boy, praising their artistry, dedication, and electrifying stage presence. D’banj described Rema as a “ball of energy,” admired Davido for staying humble despite his global fame, and applauded Burna Boy’s intentionality and showmanship.
While many fans celebrated the recognition of these three chart-toppers, the absence of Wizkid, one of Afrobeats’ most globally revered artists, did not go unnoticed.
The revelation quickly sparked debates online, with some fans questioning the criteria behind D’banj’s picks and others defending the singer’s personal preferences.
As discussions continue, D’banj’s list has reignited the conversation around who truly leads the pack in Nigeria’s ever-evolving music scene, reminding fans that even legends have their favorites.

In other news, D’banj has opened up about the deliberate strategy behind Don Jazzy’s mysterious public image during their time as Mo’Hits Records co-founders.
Speaking in a new interview on The Afrobeats Podcast with Adesope Olajide, D’banj revealed that the calculated branding was designed to earn respect and fear from an industry that initially failed to recognize them as serious musicians due to their dual roles as artists and executives.
“After an award in 2006, they didn’t nominate Mo’Hits, and we had great success that year,” D’banj recalled. “Jazzy and I spoke, and we figured out that it’s because we were the only executives that were active [as musicians].”
