How I wished to be like Portable – D’banj reveals in recent interview, calls himself new cat (Video)
Nigerian singer and songwriter Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, expressed his admiration for his junior colleague, Portable, during a recent interview.
As a guest on Beat FM, D’banj revealed that he has no issue with how Portable conducts himself in public and even wishes he could emulate the singer. The legendary ‘Koko Master’ showed interest in the ‘Zazoo Zeh’ crooner’s expressive style, stating that he used to be similar in his approach.
D’banj, who recently released his hit song ‘Since ’04,’ reminisced about his earlier days in the industry. He mentioned that whenever he felt inspired at night, he would act on it by morning, highlighting how different things were before the advent of social media. According to him, they used to have to wait several weeks before taking certain actions.
Referring to himself as a “new cat,” D’banj applauded Portable and other emerging artists for their innovative use of social media in propelling their music careers.
He said, “I wish I could be like Portable because he is doing things the way I used to do. Anything that happens at night, we’d call Don Jazzy and make it happen by morning, but back then, they’d tell us to wait two to three weeks. Forget that. In our time, there was no social media, but seeing the likes of Portable and other new cats doing wonders, that’s why I say I’m a new cat.”
