Nigerian award-winning singer, David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has gotten support from a lot of Nigerians to be nominated for a new category in the Grammy Awards.

The Afrobeats mascot is predicted to receive a nomination in a brand-new Grammy category.

The Recording Academy also announced the introduction of a new category called “Best Song for Social Change” in addition to confirming that plans are currently being considered to add an Afrobeats category to the Grammys.

According to the academy, the category was proposed by their voting members to recognize creators of message-driven music that responds to the social issues of our time and has the potential for positive global impact.

Due to the impact his Afrofusion song “Fem” had on the #ENDSARS Protest youth movement in Nigeria, a sizable number of music fans are now tipping and rallying support for the DMW frontline act and owner to be nominated for the category.

The #ENDSARS movement was a peaceful protest organised and led by Nigerian youths in October 2020 to march against police brutality, bad governance, and other mind-shattering vices in the country.

However, the protest was met by the gruesome massacre of civilians on October 20, 2020, at the Lekki-Toll Gate in Lagos.

Davido’s “FEM” was an upbeat song that supported the cause throughout the protest and let the oppressors know that the populace was sick of “mere talks” about change and preferred to see “actions.”

    See reactions below:

We'll never forget what FEM by Davido did for us during the #EndSARS protest.

It wasn't the reason he sang it, but when we listened to the lyrics during the protest, it further spurred us.

“FEM” by Davido wasn’t just an ordinary song but a song used in fighting against brutality during the 2020 #Endsars in Nigeria for people both home and Abroad. @RecordingAcad @davido @davido_global pic.twitter.com/udcFEDLw2a
