“My Godfather, 001” – Davido greets Dangote, Sanwo-Olu and other dignitaries one by one at a recent event in Lagos (Watch)

Afrobeat superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, once again reminded Nigerians of his deep-rooted values as he stole the spotlight at the Dangote Cement Customer Awards and Gala Night held on May 27th at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island.
The event, which attracted top dignitaries and influential figures from across the country, was a night of celebration and appreciation for customers and partners of Dangote Cement.
Among the entertainers invited to thrill the audience, Davido’s presence stood out—not just for his performance, but for the humility and respect he displayed on stage.
Before launching into his electrifying performance, Davido paused to show respect to several high-profile guests seated at the front row. Moving gracefully across the stage, he greeted each elder present, many of whom are old enough to be his father.
When he reached Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, Davido bowed slightly and respectfully addressed him as “My Godfather.” His next stop was Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to whom he referred as “001,” a title often reserved for the most senior or respected figures—a nod to the governor’s status and possibly a playful reflection of Davido’s own “001” title among his fans.
The singer also exchanged a warm “hi-five” with music veteran Peter Okoye of P-Square fame before returning to the stage to begin his performance.
The moment, captured in videos circulating online, has sparked praise from fans and observers alike, who commended Davido’s upbringing and his ability to remain grounded despite his global fame.

Davido’s appearance at the event once again cements his reputation not just as a global music icon but also as a cultural ambassador who upholds traditional values of respect and decorum.
