In an exclusive interview with Forbes, Nigerian Afrobeat superstar Davido discussed the rise of afrobeats in the modern world and the reasons why the genre’s performers have changed their live shows.

On Tuesday, April 25, 2023, The DMW boss spoke openly about the current state of afrobeats in an exclusive interview with Forbes in Botswana.

The singer claimed that afrobeats as a whole have evolved and are beyond many people’s expectations since how people today perceive Africans is different from how they did in the early 2010s when he was studying in the US.

He said that more people are becoming interested in listening to Nigerian music, which has had a significant impact on how modern afrobeats musicians produce songs and perform.

Davido discusses how there has been a change from performers only playing pre-recorded music at gatherings and concerts to ones that put more effort into showcasing the current afrobeats sound’s uniqueness.

He stated that he is looking forward to his next North American tour, which will begin on July 1st 2023, as his attention has shifted from how much money he would make from the trip to how he would convey his much.

During the interview, The “Timeless” hitmaker discussed how music is unique and creative, as well as his work as a record producer and how he came up with the moniker Davido.
