Afrobeats sensation Davido has surprised fans with an unexpected revelation—he harbours a deep interest in journalism and media, a passion he says could have easily become a career path if he wasn’t immersed in music.

The award-winning singer made this disclosure during a recent sit-down on Beat 96.1FM, where he discussed the promotional whirlwind surrounding his latest album.

While many might see media tours as a mere obligation, Davido shared that he genuinely enjoys engaging with the press and fans alike.

“I’ve been doing crazy promo for my album – not easy. I don’t have to do promo but I like it, I like conversing and all. A lot of people don’t know that, aside from business management, I also studied marketing so I like to talk. If I had a podcast, I’d definitely talk for 3 or 4 days,” he said.

Known for his infectious energy and online presence, the DMW boss explained that communication has always been second nature to him.

For Davido, interviews and conversations aren’t just publicity tools—they’re extensions of his artistry and curiosity.

“It’s part of being an artiste, to me. I could talk and talk but some people don’t like to talk. When people meet me, I like to have conversations and I’d like to know things. I like information. If you see me at home, I’m always researching something. I watch the news a lot—when I wake up, I’d have CNN on the television downstairs.”

Going further, Davido admitted that his interest in the media is more than surface-level and could have defined a completely different path for him.

“I’m a very informative person, and I feel like if I wasn’t fully doing music, I’d definitely be into something like journalism in a way. I like to let people know what I’m working on and all. Some people ask me why I get the most follows; it’s because I tap in and I’m always working.”

With a fan base that stretches across the globe and a reputation for being in tune with trends, Davido’s revelation sheds new light on the work ethic and intellect behind his musical success.

While he continues to dominate charts, it’s clear his passion for storytelling and sharing knowledge may one day lead him into new territory—perhaps behind a mic, not to sing, but to inform.
