Davido reflects on his journey, family, and the meaning behind 5ive in Apple Music’s Ebro Darden interview.

Afrobeats icon Davido has offered fans a powerful and emotional glimpse into his life and artistry in a candid interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, where he discussed his journey, healing, and the deeper meaning behind his fifth studio album, “5ive.”
Reflecting on his early days, Davido recalled dreaming of fame while watching YouTube vlogs and shows like “MTV Cribs,” never imagining he’d one day headline stadiums and be at the forefront of Afrobeats’ global rise.
“I just wanted that life,” he shared, remembering late nights spent on Logic trying to craft hits.
The conversation took a moving turn as he spoke about the tragic loss of his son in 2022—a moment that changed him forever.

He described how the birth of his twins became a source of healing, especially as one bears a striking resemblance to his late child. “It’s like he came back,” Davido said, voice heavy with emotion.
He also opened up about how the title “5ive” grew in significance. Initially chosen as a nod to it being his fifth album, the number came to represent grace, hope, and personal transformation—central themes in both his life and music. “It reflected my journey, my losses, my wins, and my evolution,” he explained.
Davido also confirmed long-standing rumors of a collaborative album with Chris Brown, revealing they’ve recorded over 20 unreleased tracks and hinting at future drops. “The vibe is there,” he teased.
