‘I can also act’ – Davido discloses plan to delve into filmmaking this year

Nigerian Afrobeats icon Davido is setting his sights on a new creative frontier—filmmaking. The Grammy-nominated artist recently revealed his plans to step behind the camera and explore storytelling through film in a conversation with content creator Darryl.
Reflecting on his broader interests in the entertainment industry, Davido shared that even if he hadn’t pursued music, he would still be deeply involved in the creative space, albeit behind the scenes.
“I studied business marketing,” he said, “so I would have still been in the entertainment space but probably more of behind the scenes.”
When it comes to acting, Davido didn’t shy away from expressing confidence in his on-screen chops. “I can also act. I can act for real,” he said, pointing to his performances in music videos like ‘Jowo’ and ‘Nwa Baby’ as proof of his skills.
Taking it a step further, Davido announced his active involvement in the film world. “I’m investing in a couple of films this year,” he revealed. “Shoutout to my director, Dammy Twitch. We’ve got some ideas—series coming.”
He also shared candid thoughts on the African film industry, stating, “The film space right now in Africa is going bankrupt. So, we’re definitely going to tap into that.”
This new chapter in Davido’s journey comes on the heels of the successful release of his fifth studio album, 5ive, which has been met with critical and fan acclaim, signaling that he’s ready to make waves not just in music, but on the big screen too.
