Watch Davido’s full interview with Business Untitled below
In a recent clip from an interview on the American podcast “Business Untitled,” which surfaced online on Friday, April 26, 2024, Nigerian superstar Davido set the record straight regarding his rise to success in the music industry, debunking the notion that his father’s wealth played a significant role.
Davido addressed common misconceptions surrounding his career and underscored the importance of talent and hard work in achieving success. Contrary to popular belief, he emphasized that there are individuals from affluent backgrounds who haven’t achieved the level of success he has.
The music mogul opened up about the initial challenges he faced, revealing that his father’s wealth actually posed obstacles when he began his music career. However, he emphasized that his talent and relentless dedication ultimately propelled him forward.
During the podcast, Davido emphasized the value of his skill and competence in garnering recognition, stating firmly, “I got accepted for one reason, and that reason is that I am good, talented.” He stressed that without his inherent talent and musical proficiency, his background alone wouldn’t have secured his place in the industry.
Addressing the broader perception of wealth in Nigeria, Davido highlighted the presence of numerous billionaires in the country, some even wealthier than his father. However, he attributed his success to his personal values and unwavering commitment to his craft, emphasizing that financial privilege alone doesn’t guarantee success.
In his words, “There are many billionaires in Nigeria, even richer than my father… And there are people [billionaire’s children] who have tried to do what I have tried to do: music, entertainment, business. But mine has been successful because of my values. The biggest challenge I had when I started music was that my father is wealthy. But I got accepted for one reason and that reason is that I am good, talented. I don’t think I would have ever been accepted if I wasn’t good at what I do.”
