Nigerian music star Davido has shared fresh thoughts on his long-discussed interest in politics, admitting he is now having second thoughts about making the transition.

The Afrobeats heavyweight made the revelation during a recent livestream on Twitch alongside streamer Davrel, where he spoke candidly about the risks tied to leaving entertainment for public office.
According to Davido, his hesitation stems from observing the experiences of other celebrities who ventured into politics but struggled to maintain the same level of success. He noted that such outcomes have made him more cautious about pursuing that path.
The singer also pointed out that he has spent years building a strong brand, loyal fanbase, and global reputation—something he is not willing to jeopardise without careful consideration.
He said:
“Before, I wanted to go into politics but honestly, now, I see it two ways. All my years of goodwill, my name and my career, all the hard work and the fan base we have built, it is tricky because the way people look at things; the superstars that have gone into politics, the transition hasn’t really been successful. I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician. It is like it is their business,” he added.
His remarks have sparked conversations among fans, especially given his family’s strong political background and his previous openness about public service ambitions.
While he hasn’t ruled out politics entirely, Davido’s latest comments suggest he is taking a more measured approach, carefully weighing the impact such a move could have on his legacy in the music industry.
“I used to record 10 songs in a day, I was about to dropout of school cuz I was already a superstar but my dad discovered and took me back to Babcock and took me straight to live with the vice chancellor”
