“Just a kid from Benin”- Davido Expresses Pride In Rema.
In a recent interview, Davido talked about how much he admires and is proud of his junior colleague, Rema.
Davido recalled how he recently ran into Rema in New York and could not resist giving him a bear hug in an interview.
He mentioned that he had memories of Rema and D Prince visiting his home in the past, but the young vocalist had been reserved and silent.
“I saw Rema in New York two days ago. And I hugged him, and I was like ‘I’m so proud of you’.
“Because I remember him coming over to my house with D Prince back then and just chilling, quiet in my living room. Didn’t say a word,” Davido said.
Davido went on to explain that it was amazing to see how far Rema had come since then, mentioning that the singer had collaborated with Selena Gomez on the song “Calm Down,” which became the highest-charting Afrobeat single ever.
“Not knowing that he’s going to have the highest charting Afrobeat song ever with ‘Calm Down’ with Selena Gomez.
“That’s crazy. Just a kid from Benin and then you see that happen. It makes you believe in miracles.”
The singer of “If” continued by discussing the value of music as a way for people to escape from the difficulties of daily life.
Additionally, he emphasised how important it is for the Nigerian government to give attention to the entertainment sector, claiming that it may assist the nation “graduate and escape from a lot of it.”
“So the avenue for a lot of people to escape is music. These are things that the government should be doing.
“But we are happy that Nigeria has entertainment, Africa has another side of it that can help us graduate and escape from a lot of it.”
