Afrobeats megastar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has explained why he selected Akwa Ibom State as the first Nigerian stop for his ongoing 5ive Alive Tour.

Speaking during a pre-concert reception in Uyo, Davido said the state’s world-class infrastructure, peaceful atmosphere, and the government’s commitment to youth empowerment were the main reasons behind his choice.
The award-winning singer praised Governor Umo Eno’s administration for fostering a secure and enabling environment that supports creativity and young talent.
“I am excited — it’s the best of its kind. We toured America already, and it was a great success. We were looking for a good facility around Africa, and Akwa Ibom is one of the places that we found.
You have a standard facility, that’s why we are starting here. As time goes, we will keep doing the other states, and I am just excited the stadium is already filled up, so let’s get ready and shut it down,”
— Davido said.
Davido’s performance at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday, October 26, 2025, marked a historic moment, as he became the first artist to sell out the 30,000-capacity arena.
During the event, Senate President Godswill Akpabio lauded Governor Eno for his leadership style, describing him as youth- and sports-friendly.
He also commended Davido for his positive influence on young Nigerians and urged him to continue spotlighting emerging talents, particularly from Akwa Ibom, on global stages.
Governor Umo Eno, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to Davido for inspiring young people through his dedication and success. He noted that Davido’s rise in the music industry proves that with consistency and hard work, dreams are achievable.
“We want to thank you for being an inspiration to the younger generation. You have taken your career to the zenith, and that motivates our youths to believe that their goals are possible.
We are a youth-friendly state, developing local talents, and we appreciate you for sharing the stage with some of our homegrown entertainers,”
— Governor Eno said.
Davido’s 5ive Alive Tour will continue across other major Nigerian cities, including Oyo, Enugu, Adamawa, Abuja, and Lagos, before extending to international venues.
