Davido Opens Up About Dami Duro’s Surprising Impact on Nigeria’s Presidency

Afrobeats superstar Davido recently stunned fans with a surprising revelation about the impact of his breakout hit, Dami Duro—one that reached the presidential villa.
Speaking in a candid interview on Power 105.1 FM, the Nigerian hitmaker shared that his 2011 smash hit didn’t just catapult him into the spotlight—it also caught the ear of then-President Goodluck Jonathan, who, according to Davido, had the track set as his ringtone.
“At the time, someone told me the president was using Dami Duro as his ringtone,” Davido said, still amazed by the moment. “That’s when people started telling my dad, ‘You better let this boy do his music!’”
Before his rise to fame, Davido revealed that his father was strongly against his musical ambitions, even going so far as to involve law enforcement and military personnel to shut down his performances. But all that changed when Dami Duro became a nationwide anthem.
The track’s popularity—and its unexpected endorsement from the country’s leader—became the turning point in Davido’s relationship with his father. “We went from barely talking to being best friends,” he shared. “Now he supports everything I do—he comes to my shows, he’s involved in my business… everything.”
The story sheds light on how Dami Duro wasn’t just a career-defining hit—it was a life-changer, paving the way for Davido to find not only stardom but also a renewed bond with his father.
