Davido, Pinnick settle out-of-court, Davido to perform at ‘Warri Again’ concert
In a recent development, a Delta High Court seated in Effurun has approved an out-of-court settlement between Brownhill Investment Company and David Adeleke, widely known as Davido. The company had filed a lawsuit against Davido for breach of contract regarding his performance at the 19th edition of the ‘Warri Again Concert’.
Justice Michael Obi of High Court Three, Effurun, offered commendation to both parties for reaching an amicable resolution to settle the matter outside of court.
“I commend both parties for exploring an amicable resolution to settle out of court,” Obi said.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Brownhill Investment Company, the plaintiff in the case, is owned by Amaju Pinnick, the former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The lawsuit, marked EHC/183/2023, was filed by Brownhill Investment Company in October 2023, naming Afrobeats singer Davido and his music label, Davido Music Worldwide Limited, as joint defendants. The lawsuit stemmed from an alleged breach of contract regarding Davido’s performance at the 19th edition of the Warri Again Concert.
In the suit, Brownhill Investment Company sought ₦2 billion in general damages from the defendants for failing to fulfill the terms of the concert contract. Additionally, the company requested ₦150 million for legal and professional fees, along with an extra ₦30 million for filing costs.
In response to the court’s verdict, counsel for the defendants, Oladayo Ogungbe, informed NAN after the court proceedings that both parties had successfully pursued an out-of-court settlement.
“Davido is coming again to Warri on October 4 to perform – that forms part of the settlement.
“It’s fine. It is better than going through the rigours of litigations. Both parties consider the option of having the matter settled out of court, which in my opinion as a lawyer, is the best approach to any litigation. It is a win-win situation to both parties,” Ogungbe added.
NAN reports that the Warri Again concert is an annual event organized by Pinnick to celebrate entertainers from the Niger Delta region.
