Davido discussed his feelings upon receiving three Grammy nominations simultaneously. The Nigerian international singer accomplished this feat in 2023, securing nods in the categories of Best African Music Performance, Best Global Music Album, and Best Global Music Performance.
In an exclusive interview with the Recording Academy that emerged online on Thursday, February 1, 2024, Davido provided insights into his reaction upon learning about the prestigious Grammy nominations. Recalling the moment, he shared that he was at home with his wife, Chioma, when the news reached him.
The singer revealed that, just like any other day, he took a shower, prayed, and had breakfast before being informed about the nominations. Notably, the first person he reached out to with the exciting news was his manager, Asa Asika.
In his words, “I was at home; the nomination list came out quite early. I took a shower, prayed, and ate breakfast just like a regular day, my wife was with me, but the first person I spoke to on the phone was my manager, Asa.”
Describing the aftermath of the announcement, Davido mentioned, “I went on Twitter, and Instagram; my WhatsApp was blowiing up, and people just started calling, and everybody was happy.”
In the interview, the King of Afrobeats explored the reasons behind the special significance of the nomination for his “Timeless” album. Despite dedicating considerable effort to all his projects throughout his 13-year career, Davido underscored that “Timeless” was particularly noteworthy as it was created after a hiatus, infusing the creative process with a unique and intentional quality.
The DMW boss emphasized the personal nature of the “Timeless” album, characterizing it as a profoundly personal experience for both himself and his dedicated team.
