Davido supports Tunde Onakoya’s Guinness World Record attempt in New York
Afrobeat superstar Davido has extended his backing to Chess Master Tunde Onakoya in his quest to break the Guinness World Record for the Longest Chess Marathon.
Following his electrifying performance at Madison Square Garden, Davido made a gracious appearance at Times Square, New York City, to throw his support behind Tunde Onakoya, the Chess in Slums master, as he endeavors to shatter the Guinness world record for the longest chess marathon.

This collaboration between Davido and Tunde exemplifies the strength of unity and encouragement within the creative community. Tunde aims to surpass the 58-hour mark, having already played for over 41 hours. The chess marathon commenced on April 17 and is scheduled to conclude on April 19, 2024.

In a generous gesture, Davido presented Tunde with his iconic 30BG chain, which Tunde wore proudly. Several other celebrities and notable figures have also visited Tunde to show their support. Nigerian artist Adekunle Gold and activist Yele Sowore were among them, with Adekunle Gold contributing funds, brand-new iPads, and essential equipment for live streaming.

In addition, Davido is broadening his musical horizons by teaming up with American distribution giant UnitedMasters to unveil a fresh record label named Nine+ Records.
This exciting announcement, made on Thursday, April 18, 2024, signals a departure from solely Afrobeats, aiming to embrace diverse genres like hip-hop, R&B, Latin, and country music. Steve Stoute, the founder and CEO of UnitedMasters, commended Davido’s entrepreneurial flair and expressed great optimism for this partnership.
