Davido talks about the ‘Timeless’ album and the growth of Afrobeats in new interview.
Nigerian music sensation Davido recently engaged in a captivating discussion with ABC News, shedding light on the astounding rise of Afrobeats and the creative forces that have influenced his own musical journey.
In a conversation led by Indian American journalist Reena Roy, Davido offered valuable insights into his path in the world of music and the driving forces behind his latest album, “Timeless.”
Davido candidly shared that his musical odyssey was profoundly shaped by Western culture, with early inspirations drawn from luminaries such as 50 Cent, Ludacris, and Nelly.
He also fondly recalled his introduction to Afrobeats at the age of 15, a pivotal moment that ignited his enthusiasm for artists like Psquare, Dbanj, and 2face.
Moreover, the artist highlighted the dramatic transformations in the music industry, underscoring the shift from traditional methods of distributing thousands of CDs to the rapid digital success that artists can now achieve.
He said, “You can’t compare six to seven years ago to now. I remember the music process then, it takes you months to promote a song. I remember me and my manager, we shared like 5000 CD’s going everywhere, parties trying to promote. Whereas now you can be in your dorm room in college and create a song and have a challenge and the next day you wake up and you’re a millionaire. (cis )”
Seeing the way Afrobeats have changed the world and the impact we’ve had in music is beautiful! To see how respected and cherished our culture has become makes me so proud.
