I had a studio in my father’s house and he didn’t know – Davido
Renowned Nigerian music sensation, Davido recently unveiled a surprising anecdote from his early days in the music scene.
In an interview released online on Monday, March 25, 2024, the artist, whose birth name is David Adedeji Adeleke, shared that he had a clandestine recording studio tucked away within his family home, unbeknownst to his father, Adedeji Adeleke.
Despite residing in the same household as his father, Davido managed to keep the studio under wraps, thanks to the vast size of their residence, which boasts over 20 rooms. He credited his father’s post-work routine of retiring straight to his room for his ability to maintain secrecy, as his father remained unaware of the musical activities transpiring within their home.
Reflecting on his journey to musical acclaim, Davido delved into his academic pursuits, revealing that he initially pursued higher education in the United States. From a school in Tennessee to one in Alabama, Davido faced opposition from his father, who aimed to dissuade him from attending school in Atlanta, his city of birth.
Despite his father’s reservations, Davido found himself immersed in a vibrant musical milieu at his Alabama school. As Nigeria’s music scene began to burgeon, Davido felt drawn back to his homeland, eventually opting to abandon his studies in pursuit of his musical dreams.
The “Timeless” singer emphasized the irresistible allure of Nigeria’s music industry, stressing the desire to be part of its burgeoning success. Davido’s candid revelations offer insight into the intricate journey that propelled him to become one of Africa’s most influential musical luminaries.
