Everywhere is dangerous – Davido refutes harmful rhetoric about Nigeria being ‘dangerous’

Afrobeats megastar Davido has strongly condemned the persistent portrayal of Nigeria as an unsafe and violent country, urging the world to look beyond sensationalized headlines and see the nation’s true essence.
During a recent interview on French-speaking media platform CKO, the music icon opened up about his personal journey, life between Lagos and Atlanta, and the progress of his musical career.
However, the conversation took a sharp turn when the host brought up the widespread perception of Nigeria as “dangerous.”
In response, Davido was quick to dismantle the stereotype, highlighting that danger exists all over the world, not just in Nigeria.
“Everywhere is dangerous! The Congo is dangerous, Benin is dangerous, Paris is dangerous, everywhere is dangerous. Even in Atlanta, you could go somewhere and get shot, so that makes it dangerous. Heck, the world is dangerous and it’s God that protects us,” he said.
“I heard that Nigeria is dangerous”

Davido also took issue with the way international media often highlight only the negative aspects of Nigeria, while failing to spotlight the nation’s achievements, affluence, and cultural vibrancy.
“You heard that it’s dangerous; that’s why you have to visit; you can’t keep hearing. That’s what they do, they show the bad parts and not the Bugattis. They don’t show the Ferraris, Rolls Royces, and private jets,” he added.
He went on to challenge the host’s assumptions about violence in Nigeria, noting that crime and gang activity are global issues not exclusive to any one country.
“There are gangs everywhere too, in Congo and Senegal. Where did you hear that?” Davido asked pointedly.
Encouraging people to visit Lagos and experience the reality for themselves, Davido’s remarks serve as a powerful rebuttal to the one-dimensional narratives often attached to Nigeria.
His words also reflect a growing call among Nigerians for a more balanced and accurate representation of the country on the world stage.
