Renowned Afrobeats musician Davido has courageously opened up about his experiences with grief, sharing how he has coped with the tragic loss of loved ones while addressing the misconception that he is always accessible.

In a heartfelt interview with “Mystery Fashionist” in New York, Davido revealed the emotional toll of these losses. He spoke about the deep and lasting impact of losing his mother, Mrs. Victoria Imade Adeleke, when he was just 11 years old.

Despite his global fame and musical success, the pain from her passing has remained with him, shaping his emotional journey throughout life.

Davido’s grief was compounded by the devastating loss of his 3-year-old son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, which has left an indelible mark on the artist. The tragic death of his young son has been one of the most painful experiences of his life.

In addition to these personal tragedies, Davido has faced the unexpected deaths of several close friends, including Tagbo, DJ Olu, Obama DMW, and his photographer, Fortune. The successive losses of those dear to him have been overwhelming, further adding to the emotional weight he carries.

During the interview, Davido shared how these heartbreaks have impacted him, describing the difficulty of watching loved ones pass away and the challenge of continuing forward despite the sorrow.

His openness highlights the emotional burdens behind his public persona, showing the human side of a superstar known for his vibrant music and uplifting energy.

Davido reflects on the loss of his mother

Davido recently reflected on the profound impact of losing his mother, Mrs. Victoria Imade Adeleke, at the age of eleven, and how that loss continues to shape his emotional life.

The Afrobeats superstar shared how he channelled his grief into his music, specifically through the song “Stand Strong.”

“I have lost a lot of people. I lost my mum when I was eleven. I’m just being strong. I did a song called ‘Stand Strong.’ I feel like strength and, obviously, my faith has kept me going,” Davido stated, emphasizing the role of resilience and faith in his journey.

    Davido clarifies misconceptions about him

Additionally, the newly married singer addressed misconceptions surrounding his life and persona, particularly the perception that he is “too accessible.” Davido explained that this stems from his upbringing in a large family, where being surrounded by people was the norm.

“I think sometimes, people think I am not approachable. Another misconception is that people also think I am too accessible. I grew up in a big family, I’m used to having people around me. My talent and success is God-given,” he added.
