Afrobeats superstar Davido has once again blended his love for football with high-stakes confidence, placing a $25,000 bet (approximately ₦36 million) on the Super Eagles’ opening match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The singer shared a screenshot of his betting slip on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, rallying support for the national team with a simple but spirited message: “Let’s get this W Nigeria.”
Placed through the Stake app, the wager predicts that both Nigeria and Tanzania will score a goal. If successful, the bet could yield a payout of $96,564, estimated to be around ₦140 million.
Davido’s latest move is far from a one-off. The multiple award-winning artist has repeatedly made headlines for publicly backing the Super Eagles with his own money. Before Nigeria’s recent World Cup qualifier against Gabon, he reportedly staked $10,000 (about ₦15 million) on a Nigerian win, also predicting goals from both teams. That gamble didn’t pay off after Nigeria suffered a defeat, but it did little to dampen his visible support for the national side.
As expected, the fresh bet has triggered mixed reactions online. While many fans applauded Davido’s faith in the team, others jokingly questioned whether the move was driven more by business than patriotism.
Some critics also pointed out his role as a Stake ambassador, suggesting the bet doubled as promotion, though supporters insist it reflects his genuine enthusiasm for Nigerian football.

On the pitch, the Super Eagles will face Tanzania’s Taifa Stars on Tuesday, December 23, at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Morocco, as they kick off their AFCON campaign. Nigeria are drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia and Uganda and are widely tipped as one of the favourites to go deep in the tournament.
The team boasts elite talents such as Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, and history appears to be on their side Nigeria have never lost a competitive match to Tanzania. The Super Eagles are also ranked 38th in the world by FIFA, well ahead of Tanzania, who sit at 112th.
Still, optimism is tempered by recent disappointment, with Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup leaving fans hopeful but cautious.
As AFCON 2025 gets underway, Davido’s bold bet has added extra buzz to Nigeria’s opening fixture — one that fans will now be watching with even greater interest.
