David Raya to join Arsenal on initial loan from Brentford as he signs new contract with the Bees.
David Raya is set to make a temporary move to Arsenal from Brentford, rather than a permanent transfer, with the added provision of an option to purchase in the agreement.
Contrary to earlier assumptions of the goalkeeper’s permanent transfer to the Gunners, The Athletic has disclosed that the Spaniard will initially join on a season-long loan and is likely to extend his contract with Brentford. His current contract will expire next summer.
In return for this loan arrangement, Arsenal will pay a loan fee of £3 million ($3.8 million), and there’s a buyout option of £27 million ($34 million) at the end of the 2023–24 season. With the team gearing up for a demanding season on multiple fronts following their Champions League qualification last year, Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster the squad.
While there was reported interest from Bayern Munich, Raya has consistently prioritized playing in the Premier League.
The starting goalkeeper for the opening match of the 2023–24 season against Nottingham Forest, set for Saturday at noon, will soon be revealed.
