David De Gea is not going! Having won over Erik ten Hag, the Man Utd goalkeeper set to sign a new contract.
David De Gea, the goalkeeper for Manchester United, is set to sign a new contract with the club, extending his time at Old Trafford.
According to Forbes, De Gea is nearing the end of his current contract at United but is also close to signing a new one.
The club has now decided to maintain hold of De Gea after the goalkeeper was able to persuade manager Erik Ten Hag that he deserves to continue.
In reaction to rumours that he would quit Manchester United on a free transfer at the end of the season, the goalie has previously stated categorically that he “loves” the club. Ten Hag has also lauded his kicking abilities and defended his stopper, stating that he is a “complete goalkeeper.”
Since Ten Hag took over, De Gea’s kicking has drawn attention and even fueled rumours that the Dutchman would buy a new goalkeeper, but it’s believed that the Dutchman cherishes De Gea’s experience and leadership in the team.
David Raya of Brentford had been rumoured to be moving, but the Red Devils appear poised to stick with De Gea and will now give priority in the summer transfer window to bolstering other positions in the squad.
With 14 clean sheets thus far in the Premier League in 2022–2023, De Gea is in the lead in the race for the Golden Glove.
Manchester United face a crunch week as they take on Sevilla in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie on Thursday and then head to Wembley on Sunday to face Brighton in the FA Cup semi-finals.
