Daniel Regha Berates Wizkid’s “Morayo”: Calls It A Quantity Over Quality Album literally two songs divided into subparts
Outspoken social commentator Daniel Regha has once again sparked conversations with his sharp critique of Wizkid’s latest album, ‘Morayo,’ released on November 22, 2024.
Regha, known for his no-holds-barred opinions, shared his thoughts on the project, which he believes misses the mark despite the buzz surrounding its release.
In his review, Regha accused the album of prioritizing quantity over quality. “It’s literally two songs divided into subparts,” he remarked, suggesting that the album lacks the depth fans have come to expect from Wizkid. While acknowledging that ‘Morayo‘ is likely to achieve commercial success due to its hype, Regha feels it falls short of living up to the lofty expectations tied to the superstar’s reputation.
One of Regha’s major criticisms is the album’s reliance on tracks that seem designed for TikTok trends rather than showcasing artistic innovation.
He specifically cited the track ‘Bend‘ as an example of this pattern, describing it as repetitive and uninspiring. However, he highlighted a few bright spots, including the songs ‘Pray‘ and ‘Kese (Dance),’ which he believes offer glimpses of Wizkid’s potential when at his best.
The collaboration with Afrobeats star Asake on the track ‘Bad Girl‘ also came under fire. Regha called the duet a missed opportunity, lamenting that neither artist brought their signature spark to the song. “It’s disappointing because their talent is undeniable, but the track doesn’t live up to expectations,” he noted.
Regha also expressed dismay that the album lacked a song dedicated to Wizkid’s late mother, which he argued would have added a heartfelt and personal touch to the project. He feels such an inclusion could have elevated the album’s emotional resonance with fans.
Summing up his critique, Regha rated ‘Morayo‘ a low 3.5 out of 10, acknowledging the album’s production quality and willingness to experiment with new sounds.
However, he concluded that the project would have been better as a concise EP with only four to five standout tracks. “Sometimes less is more in the music industry,” he advised.
As always, Regha’s comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with some fans defending Wizkid’s artistry while others share similar concerns about the album’s overall impact.
"Morayo" by Wizkid is a quantity over quality album, literally two songs divided into subparts. It might be a commercial success due to hype, but unf@rtunately it's n@t the album of the year people hope it will be. A lot of songs sound repetitive, with lyrics showing that it was…
