Cristiano Ronaldo, a former Manchester United player, was charged with ‘improper and/or aggressive conduct and has now been punished for smashing a mobile phone out of the hands of a supporter during the match against Everton.

The Football Association has penalized Cristiano Ronaldo with a £50,000 fine and a two-game suspension for slamming a fan’s cell phone on the ground.

Following the altercation at Everton in April of last year, Ronaldo, whose contract with Manchester United has been terminated, was charged by the FA with “improper and/or aggressive” conduct.

Today, the FA will announce Ronaldo’s sentence and provide detailed written justifications for their choice to penalize the forward.

As a result of the ban, Ronaldo would face a two-game suspension if he signed with another Premier League team. Chelsea and Newcastle have both been linked with a move for the 37-year-old.

Ronaldo, who is in Qatar preparing for Portugal’s World Cup opener against Ghana tomorrow, was cautioned by Merseyside Police over the incident.

After the incident, which occurred when Ronaldo was making his way towards the tunnel following United’s 1-0 defeat at Goodison Park, he issued an apology on social media for his “outburst” and invited the supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford “as a sign of fair play and sportsmanship”.

Taking to his Instagram account after the match, Ronaldo said: “It’s never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing. Nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game.

“I would like to apologise for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair-play and sportsmanship.”
