Speculation is growing around the future of Afropop singer Crayon at Mavin Records after the release of his latest single, “Baami.”

The new track, released recently, was released under a different imprint, Olodum Ent., rather than the Mavin banner that has been associated with the singer since his breakthrough in 2019. The move has sparked widespread discussion among fans and industry watchers, with many wondering whether the artist may be preparing to move on from the label.
Crayon, whose real name is Charles Chibueze Chukwu, first rose through the ranks of Mavin’s talent pipeline before officially signing to Blowtime Entertainment, an imprint linked to Mavin, in 2019. Under the guidance of label boss Don Jazzy, he went on to build a strong reputation in the Afrobeats scene with popular songs like “Ijo (Laba Laba)” and his debut album Trench to Triumph, released in 2023.
However, the rollout for “Baami” has raised eyebrows. The single, produced by his frequent collaborator Ozedikus, arrived without the usual Mavin branding or promotion typically seen when artists from the label release new music. The absence of support from the label’s official platforms has further intensified speculation.
Observers also noticed that the singer recently updated his social media bio and profile image around the same time the track dropped — a move many fans believe could hint at a new chapter in his career.
The discussion comes at a time when Mavin Records itself has been undergoing major global expansion following its acquisition by Universal Music Group in a landmark 2024 deal.
Despite the growing conversation online, neither Crayon nor Mavin Records has released an official statement addressing the situation. It remains unclear whether the Olodum Ent. imprint signals a complete exit from the label, an independent side venture, or simply a temporary arrangement for the release.
Meanwhile, supporters of the singer have flooded social media with reactions, with many expressing excitement for his new music while also waiting for clarity about his future with the influential label.
For now, the development has left fans watching closely to see whether this marks the start of a new independent era for the Ojo-bred star.
