Nigerian Buzzing star, Ckay has shared the heartwarming story behind his treasured guitar.
Ckay was a guest on Grammy’s It’s Goes to 11 series where he opened up on his Guitar means so much to him and the hit song he created on it.
In the latest instalment of It Goes To 11, a video series in which musicians share stories about their gear, CKay opens up about this family heirloom – and discloses which smash-hit tune he wrote with it.
Speaking on the Guitar he said;
“This Guitar belonged to my uncle. My late uncle. He used to be a reggae artist, his name was Evan Okonkwo. So it’s pretty awesome. It’s by a brand called Danville New York and it’s pretty awesome. It a semi-acoustic and I can plug it in. It has an EQ here, volume control and I could adjust the tune.”
CKay in the interview described his uncle who he revealed was operating in the wake of the Nigerian Civil War.
“He was making music slowly after the Nigerian civil war. He couldn’t live his dreams, basically, unfortunately, and he died of cancer when he was I think 25 or 26.”

Explaining how much the Guitar meant to him, he said,
“It’s kind of emotional for me. So, every time I hold this or play it, I kind of remember him. It feels like I’m living both my dream and his dream.
I feel like living the dream he couldn’t is my tribute to him”
Sharing the song he made with the Guitar, he expressed himself as follows;
“On this guitar, I made Love Nwantition this, which is like a huge record.”
It ended up being the most Shazamed song in the world and I made it on this very Guitar. In a way, that’s a tribute, I feel like if he’s looking down from heaven right now, he would be happy.”
