CKay exits Warner Music in South Africa after 3 Years, Begins New Chapter with Boyfriend Music

Global Afrobeats star CKay has officially ended his recording deal with Warner Music South Africa, closing a significant chapter in his musical journey.
The artist — best known for global hits like “Love Nwantiti” and “Emiliana” — confirmed that the decision to part ways was mutual and strategic. In his words:
“Every journey has a beginning and an end, and my journey with Warner Music South Africa was a very important one which I’m grateful for… Now it’s time for me to explore new energy and new horizons.”
CKay’s partnership with Warner came on the heels of the massive success of “Love Nwantiti,” a song that became a cultural phenomenon and played a pivotal role in pushing Afrobeats to global heights.
The track leads the charge toward becoming the first Afrobeats song to earn an RIAA Diamond certification, placing CKay at the top of the list of best-selling Nigerian artists in the U.S.
During his time at Warner, CKay released two critically acclaimed albums:
- Sad Romance (2022)
- Emotions (2024)
With over 2 billion streams to his name and a sound that blends emo, Afrobeats, and global pop influences, CKay has become one of Africa’s most sonically adventurous exports.
Looking ahead, fans can expect future releases under Boyfriend Music, CKay’s independent label, which he announced just before dropping his sophomore album in 2024. The move signals a new era of creative freedom and expansion as CKay continues to push boundaries and champion Afrobeats on the world stage.
