Chris Brown pleads not guilty to additional charges in London nightclub assault case

American R&B superstar Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to two fresh charges connected to an alleged nightclub assault in London, deepening the legal troubles surrounding the Grammy-winning singer.
Brown, 36, appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, July 11, 2025, where he denied allegations of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon, specifically, a bottle. Dressed in a light brown suit, the Go Crazy crooner remained composed during the brief court session.
The new charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred on February 19, 2023, at Tape, a high-end private members’ club located in London’s affluent Mayfair area. Prosecutors allege that music producer Abraham Diaw was attacked with a bottle and subsequently chased to another part of the venue, where he was reportedly punched and kicked.
This court appearance follows Brown’s earlier not guilty plea to a more serious charge of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, which he entered at a previous hearing last month.
Also charged in the case is Omololu Akinlolu, a 39-year-old American national, who has likewise pleaded not guilty to related offences.
About 20 supporters were present at Friday’s hearing, with several audibly reacting as the R&B icon entered the courtroom. Despite the seriousness of the charges, Brown has continued to tour globally. He recently performed in Cardiff as part of his 20-year anniversary tour, celebrating two decades in the music industry.
The singer remains out on conditional bail after posting a hefty £5 million security bond to ensure his return to court for future proceedings. Brown was earlier arrested in May by officers of the Metropolitan Police at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester while on tour in the UK. He was later released from HMP Forest Bank in Salford.
The high-profile case has attracted widespread media attention and is scheduled to proceed to trial in October.
