‘Gangs of Lagos’: Chike Speaks On Biggest Challenge While Preparing For His Role.
-
Chike discusses the most challenging scenario he encountered while filming “Gang of Lagos”.
Nigerian singer, Chike has opened up on the hardest part of preparing for his role in the film “Gangs of Lagos.”
He claimed that he shot a sequence that required him to perform a mentally challenging action that he had never performed before.
He had to convince himself that it was only a stage set and not actually happening.
Although Chike acknowledged that the sequence was one of the best, he didn’t want to dwell on it for too long.
“There was a scene we shot and I had to do something I haven’t done before.
“I just had to live it like that. It was just tough so I just had to psych myself mentally to say ‘no it’s not happening’.
“Typically I would normally say ‘It is not my concern, it’s not actually happening. It’s make-believe.
“You know this scene you play and you are now remembering when everybody was telling you ‘don’t do that o. You know some things you do will later manifest’.
“It was tough when the scene was happening and everybody was playing their roles and character.
“It was even harder for me. All the time, I kept asking ‘have we finished’.
“I didn’t want to be in that moment for too long because I had to stop convincing myself that it wasn’t happening.
“I think it has to be one of the best,” he said.

Chike’s biggest challenge during the preparation for his role in ‘Gangs of Lagos’ was revealed to be the scene where his character, Pana, died and he had to stay in a coffin for his funeral in the church.
In another chat with Zikoko earlier in April, Chike also mentioned that the funeral scene was one of the most challenging ones for him.
“I won’t spoil it for anyone, but a very emotional scene in the movie really got to me.
“I didn’t have any lines or anything, so I just had to be present and listen to all the other actors perform.
“They were saying these really heavy things and giving striking performances that I didn’t know when I started getting emotional.
“You’ll know this scene as soon as it comes up in the movie, but omo, it was the toughest scene for me to shoot throughout our production,” he said.
