Chike shares how celebrity life prevented him from getting haircut in barbershop
Nigerian R&B sensation Chike Ezekpeazu Osebuka, popularly known as Chike, has taken a nostalgic journey down memory lane, reflecting on his life before achieving stardom.
He recalled simpler times when he could independently drive to the car wash or visit a barbershop to get a haircut without any attention, something that has changed due to his celebrity status.
In an interview with The Cable, the artist behind the hit track ‘Roju‘ mentioned that he doesn’t have any regrets about his fame, but he does miss the freedom he once had to engage in these everyday activities as an ordinary individual.
Chike said; “I do not have any regrets. When I consciously started making music, I have always wanted to be only recognized for what I do. So, I will not say I have regrets, but I would just say there are some things that I wish I could still do without raising an eyebrow.
For example, I love to take my car to the car wash and do stuff for myself. In fact, one of my favorite things to do when I was younger was to be in a barber’s shop and get a haircut, but now you have to stay at home. It is a lot of home time. I am not very extroverted, but there are just certain places that I like to go to.”
When asked to discuss the musicians he has collaborated with and to pick a favorite among them, the artist responded by saying that he cherishes all of them equally.
“If the person was not my favourite, would I have collaborated with them? To be honest, I have collaborated with my favourites. Most of the people I have worked with are those I have always wanted to work with, and I feel blessed about being able to work with them,”he said.
On how he managed to stay out of scandals, Chike said; “I do not know, but what I always tell people is that anything can be scandalous… it just depends on the people involved and how hotheaded they are. So, maybe I have just been lucky to find a middle ground where nobody blows things out of proportion.”
The love songs guru, who has many ladies drooling over him was also asked about his relationship status and he said; “My relationship is private, and I do not think it should be public information.”
Discussing the prevalent trend of celebrities having children with multiple partners, the artist behind the hit song ‘Nakupenda’ expressed his lack of concern about the matter. However, he emphasized that his personal aspiration is to avoid having a child with a partner outside of marriage.
Chike said; “I do not have anything against it; it was not an intentional thing for most people. So yes, you never know. You know when a man and a woman enter a room and turn off the light, you know what will happen. I would say it happens; I mean, if you are having sxx, there is a chance that there will be a product of that sexual relationship, right? A couple of years ago, it used to be considered taboo, but it does not look like one now. I really do not have any opinion on that. The goal is for that not to happen, but if it happens, we will take it as it is.”
