Chike speaks on memory of Mohbad at London listening party
At his recent listening party in London, Nigerian singer Chike paid a heartfelt tribute to his late friend and fellow artist Mohbad. Chike shared fond memories of his last conversation with Mohbad, who had called him from Kenya shortly before his passing. “Any day I remember him, I try to make it fond memories of him,” Chike said, reflecting on their friendship. “I remember the last time he called and said he was in Kenya. I just wished I’d stayed on that call longer.”
Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, was a rising star in the Nigerian music scene, known for hits like “Ponmo Sweet.” His sudden death left the Afrobeat community in mourning. Chike’s tribute at the listening party was a poignant reminder of the impact Mohbad had on those close to him.
Chike also revealed that he and Mohbad had collaborated on four songs together, although only “Egwu” has been released so far. The music community continues to honor Mohbad’s memory through their art and by supporting one another.
