Nigerian singer and songwriter Cheque has returned with a fresh body of work titled YAZI, a seven-track EP that signals a clear shift in his artistic direction.
On the project, the Penthauze artist leans into emotionally driven hip-hop, trap-inspired beats, and the melodic delivery that has become his strong suit.

YAZI captures Cheque in a deeply reflective space as he unpacks themes of ambition, faith, and perseverance. Songs like “Goodbye” and “Ocean Dry” reveal an artist taking stock of his journey, openly confronting setbacks while holding on to hope and self-belief.
While the EP is firmly rooted in Afropop, it stretches comfortably across R&B, street pop, and melodic Hip-Hop, allowing Cheque to fully express his range. He navigates the weight that comes with growth and expectation, embracing vulnerability rather than masking it, and in doing so, sounds more grounded than ever.
From the opening track, Booming, to the closing record, Desperado, the project unfolds with intention. Cheque sings with a sense of urgency, as though carrying the weight of his experiences, yet he balances those heavy moments with flashes of optimism and celebration.

Sonically, YAZI is tightly knit. The production flows seamlessly from one track to the next, creating a smooth listening experience where emotions rise and fall naturally. The cohesion across the EP reinforces its storytelling, making it feel less like a collection of songs and more like a complete statement.
With YAZI, Cheque appears determined to kick off the year on a strong note. His renewed commitment to honest storytelling shines through, marking this project as a thoughtful step forward in his evolving musical journey.
